RIVERVIEW OHV PARK 2008.. . . Shawn Hoaglan :

Just wanted to let everyone know that we opened Riverview tonight (7-30-08). Although we are not up to our normal level of maintenance, we are safe to ride and decided it was time to let everyone in to see what the Cedar River did for us. If you come ride, be aware that there are quite a few changes, and A LOT OF SAND!!
I want to say many thanks to all the people that came to help us, as we would still be closed if not for their help.

Hello Fellow Riders,
Riverview is at a point where we could use some help getting opened up for riding and we have set up a work day. As I have said in earlier messages, this is the most damage we have ever had.  This week we will meet with FEMA, the city of Waterloo and the DNR on costs and planning. The decision was made to have a cleanup day on July 13, starting at 8:00 AM. If you come, we will meet in our parking lot, and  please bring shovels for sand, gloves, your machine to ride, a trailer to pull if you have one, lop shears, small chain saw, lawn or garden rake, and food and drink. The work needed is to cleanup trash that has floated in, trim trees, move debris from trails and trees, put up fence, clean fence, and move sand from the perimeter fence. please let me know if you are coming, so we have an idea of how many workers we will have.

Thank You ,

Shawn Hoaglan

Here are some photos I took of Riverview yesterday, June 20. The water is low enough that I could get to about half of the area. The parking lot is covered with about a foot of sand, but the toilet, shelter and cement seem to be all right. We have much work ahead of us, and will be closed for a while, but we have already begun working on what we can get to.

Here is a link to an article in today's paper about the flooding in the Waterloo parks. Paul Huting is who we work with for Riverview. I toured the area yesterday for the first time, and it is worse than I have ever seen. The "B" track is gone, and that entire area is a sand lot, with holes and sand bars. I could not get to the fence along the road and there is approximately a foot of sand in the parking lot, so we cannot tell yet what lies beneath. Rich and Wayne have been working some this week, but it will be slow going. Once we get better access and the FEMA tour is done, we will put together a plan of attack and ask for help.
